Catering to your pet's ever-changing needs as they enter their golden years.
When a cat is considered a senior, we may start to see signs of illness due to ageing. Every cat is different when it comes to senior care, and it is important to discuss your individual cat’s needs with your veterinarian.
As cats age, we often notice changes which give us clues to their overall health. Take notice of any appetite changes, changes in drinking and urination, weight loss, mobility problems, hair loss and even vision loss.
If your senior cat is losing weight, it is a sure sign that they need an exam and a wellness blood profile. Many of the conditions which can cause cats to lose weight can be treated or at least managed to optimize your cat’s quality of life and improve their longevity. Of course, the earlier we diagnose your cat, the better we can manage it.
Regular check-ups, proper senior diets, and routine blood screening are all important for your senior cat.
There are many health problems which older cats are prone to, some of these include kidney problems, thyroid disease, diabetes, arthritis, and even many cancers.
Changes to your cat’s behaviour is often a sign that there may be health problems which we need to address. Maybe your cat is sore from arthritis, perhaps he or she has an overactive thyroid or possibly their vision is deteriorating.
